The Project for the Construction of Rubavu One Stop Border Post under the construction of Dongil Construction Co, and the supervision of Land Mark started on 23 September 2015 and will be completed by the end of February 2017.
The construction works of Rubavu OSBP will ease movement of people, facilitate trade, cut down unnecessary costs due to duplication of operations and therefore reduce journey time for transporters and travelers.
The project is financed by the Howard G. Buffet Foundation, a US-based philanthropic organization working to improve the standard of living and quality of life for the world. The project will cost US$7.2 million whereby Government of the Republic of Rwanda covers taxes, incurred for procurement of goods, works and services limited to value added tax, customs, as well as expropriation cost amounting to $1.2 million.
The project consists of the construction of border post facilities, including the main building to accommodate all services, among others customs and migration offices, Police offices, verification shed & warehouse; clearance booth, internal roads for light and heavy vehicle, a greening environment within and around OSBP, etc.
OSBP facilities, will ease movement by bringing all border control services of two neighboring countries under one roof, improving the efficiency of custom clearance procedures through OSBPs. It will also significantly improve Rwanda's productivity and competitiveness, contribute to raising government revenues, and increase business and income opportunities.
