Gicumbi urban road to support the social economic development in District

Upgrading works of Gicumbi Urban Roads in town (4 m) was completed. The upgraded road network is expected to enhance the social and economic development in District and contribute in poverty alleviation.

The roads were upgraded by HORIZON CONSTRUCTION Ltd, a Rwandan company specialized in road construction. The construction works started on 27th November 2015 completed on 15th May 2016 at a total cost of 1,907,895,515 Frw. The project was financed by the Government of Rwanda.

This first phase which comprises 4.3 km and covers 8 roads around Gicumbi, including: Byumba Hospital - IPB (832.6 m); Byumba Hospital-District Office (761.134 m); COVIGI-Marché de Byumba (115 m); Ishingiro-Station Gemeka (602,685 m); Route EWSA (106.337 m) are completed.

The phase II of this project (7.5 Km) will be implemented up on the availability of funds and will cover part of urban roads within Gicumbi town.

Bernard Bihezande, the Executive Secretary of Gicumbi District appreciated the completion of upgraded roads, and mention that the rehabilitated roads contribute to the development of the District by promoting business. He added that apart from job creation during the implementation period, there were other advantages such as increase of value of land and houses along these roads.
