Kigali 26 January 2020: Rwanda Standards Board has handed a Designation Certificate to the National Laboratory of Public Works (NLPW) operating under RTDA

This nomination by the National institution is the recognition that the testing laboratory is competent to perform specific test and measurement activities in accordance with the International Standard and the East African Community Standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology and Testing Act;.

To enable roads and bridges to be built in accordance with the Technical Specifications, it is necessary for quality control tests to be carried out at both competent site laboratory and Central Laboratory (National Laboratory of Publics Works). The results of these tests are intended to assist the Engineers in deciding whether a particular item of work is satisfactory and to provide a permanent record to show the work has been carried out in accordance with the Contract Specification.

The National Laboratory of Public Works (NLPW) is committed to providing exemplary services with respect to performing accurate testing and analysis of soils, concrete and asphalt samples. The NLPW provides support on materials testing for the RTDA projects and any external customer requesting lab analysis under the scope of testing. The lab conforms to ISO/IEC Standard 17025 and ISO 9001 Standard.

ISO/IEC 17025 Designation proves the laboratory has an acceptable quality management system in place, and it has the ability and competence to provide testing results. EAC Designated labs perform tests against the international standards (ISO 17025) and results are mutually acceptable between different governmental and regulatory organizations.
