Muhanga-Karongi road project (Nyange-Muhanga section) nears completion as works reach 91.5% implementation progress

The rehabilitation and upgrading project of the Muhanga-Karongi Road, specifically the Nyange-Muhanga section (24 Km), has now reached 91.5% implementation progress of the overall physical work. This significant infrastructure project is set to enhance transportation efficiency and foster economic growth in the region.

Some residents and road users along this route have expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works, noting that the road is now fully passable and has already started being fitted with street lighting. Currently, the remaining works include final drainage improvements, installation of streetlights, and construction of pedestrian walkways along the road corridor.

The Nyange-Muhanga road is a critical transport corridor that connects Southern province with the West and North parts of Rwanda, facilitating the movement of people and goods. The ongoing rehabilitation and widening efforts aim to improve the road's capacity, durability, and safety standards. Improved road conditions will enhance mobility for residents, businesses, and transporters, ensuring seamless movement of people and goods. As road networks play a crucial role in economic development, the upgraded Nyange-Muhanga road will facilitate trade and commerce by improving access to markets, allowing local farmers and businesses to transport goods more efficiently. This will lead to increased productivity, job creation, and overall economic growth in the area.

With the rehabilitation and widening works, vehicles will experience smoother and faster movement, significantly reducing travel time. Additionally, better road conditions lead to lower vehicle maintenance costs, fuel savings, and improved road safety. These improvements will contribute to making transportation more affordable and accessible for both commuters and businesses. Construction activities such as earthworks, drainage system improvements, and pavement strengthening are in progress. The project is being implemented with a strong focus on quality and environmental sustainability to ensure long-term benefits for the community.

As of now, 91.5% of the total project physical works have been completed, marking a steady pace towards its finalization. Authorities and contractors are committed to ensuring quality and efficiency in delivering this critical road infrastructure project.

Upon completion, the Nyange-Muhanga road will not only transform mobility but also serve as a catalyst for economic development and regional integration. The government remains dedicated to infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity and contribute to Rwanda’s long-term development goals. Meanwhile, the other sections of Rubengera–Rambura and Rambura–Nyange have already been completed at 100%.

Authorities urge road users and residents to cooperate with construction teams and adhere to temporary traffic management guidelines to facilitate a smooth and safe work process. Updates on project milestones will be shared as work advances toward full completion.
